mdce = Matlab distributed computing engine

When you start a matlabpool, it goes to your matlab preferences directory (see "help prefdir") to write job and worker management files to the directory mdce_local_scheduler .

The preference directory is usually of the format ~/.matlab/R2008a

If you are using a matlab engine opened by an apache server (for example in mex compilation) then you have to make sure this preference directory pre-exists and/or is writable by user "apache".
